What is a Schnoodle?
Fun loving, smart, loyal, full of personality, playful....these are just some of the words that describe a Schnoodle. Those who have been lucky enough to call one family will sum it up as the best dog ever!
Red Poodle + White Schnauzer = Apricot Schnoodle
The Schnoodle is a designer breed dog. when it is the result of a careful breeding of the purebred Schnauzer with the purebred Poodle to achieve the excellent traits of both breeds and obtain hybrid vigor.
We breed high quality Schnoodle Puppies.
Our puppies have been bred from high quality AKC female Schnauzers with quality AKC Red Poodles. My breeding dogs are DNA tested to be sure they do not carry any known disease mutations. Healthy parents ensure healthy puppies with a longer life, and fewer veterinary bills.

Schnoodles we breed: F1 Schnoodles = Schnauzer X Poodle (50% Schnauzer/ 50% Poodle) F1B Schnoodles = Schnoodle X Poodle (25% Schnauzer/75% Poodle) The F1 Schnoodle is a puppy with the most even mix of Schnauzer and poodle. Allergy friendly with a soft wavy coat. Excellent hybrid vidor. The F1B Schnoodle is a puppy looks very much like the F1 Schnoodle. However it has a deeper red color, is the most allergy friendly, with a plush curly coat. This puppy has good hybrid vigor. Our Poodle studs are Optigen A tested for PRA to be sure that our puppies will not inherit Progressive Retinal Atrophy which is the common cause of blindness in poodles. Our Miniature Schnauzers have been DNA tested with Wisdom Health Panel and shown to be free of all 159 disease mutations tested. |
Which Doodle sheds the least?
In my opinion that would be the Schnoodle. In fact my puppies never shed! That is because Mini Schnauzers and Poodles both have non-shedding coats that are good for people with allergies.
None of my breeding dogs carry the Merle gene! A merle Schnauzer or Poodle is not a purebred AKC dog. The Merle gene comes from Australian Shepherd and the merle gene can cause serious health issues. Many breeders are introducing these mixed Aussi -Schnauzers into their Schnoodle lines to get blue eyed dogs with a mottled coat. But I do not wish to create merle puppies because if a merle breeds to a merle the gene can cause blindness, deafness and still born puppies. Also if the Australian Shepherd coat comes out in the puppy, it would not be non-shedding or hypo-allergetic. I personally strive to breed dogs with the healthiest genetic background, and I do not believe a merle dog fits that category.
Quality Puppies come from Quality Parents: I choose the best breeding stock that I am able. I research breeders and pedigrees scrupulously to ensure that my dogs come from experienced responsible breeders. I want to be sure that my breeding stock has the background that will best ensure quality in their offspring. I look for the right size, color and temperament. But above all I want to ensure healthy genes free from genetic disease. It can take years for me to find the right dog for our breeding program. Making this effort is to buy quality breeding stock is expensive, time consuming and requires patience. But it is necessary because the puppies that are produced reflect this effort both inside and out!
I have yet to find any other breeder of Schnoodles that offer registration on their Schnoodle puppies
PHYSICAL TRAITS:
The Schnoodle is a small but sturdy dog, highly intelligent and sensitive. This breed makes excellent companions as they are happiest following at your side or curled up on your lap. They make good watch dogs as they are protective by nature and will alert you at the approach of a visitor. These dogs make great pets for families with small children because they are neither too big nor too small. They love to play, but as with any dog, supervision with children is always a must. The Schnoodles coat is dense and usually curly or wavy depending on how much they favor that curly poodle gene.
HYPO-ALLERGENIC....NON SHEDDING
A wonderful aspect of the Schnoodle is that people who are allergic to dogs, often tolerate Schnoodles very well. Both the Schnauzer and the Poodle have low dander, are non - shedding and therefore their offspring also inherit those traits. The added advantage is their coat is not prone to 'doggy odor'. Grooming requirements are fairly straightforward even for the novice. Many people love the scruffy look, but when the pups are groomed close they can also have a neat appearance.
The Amazing Schnoodle Temperament:
I first decided to breed dogs, many years ago, because everyone who met our young Mini Schnauzer was taken by her sweet temperament and adorable look. It seemed to become a habit that everyone who met her was wanting to know if she would have a litter. As a Mom with kids, an amazing temperament is very high on my list of priorities. I realized it would be really great to breed our wonderful pets for other families. I started researching Schnoodles, and realized that the mixing of the Schnauzer and the Poodle took the edge off of both breeds, making them friendlier and easy going. I have been breeding Schnoodles now for several years and receive awesome feedback on the resulting puppies. Here is one example of the puppy reports I receive from owners...
"I still can't believe how much love she has in her little heart! Their temperament is just amazing to me, never seen any other dog close to that sweet and a lot of people tell me that."

Exercise Requirements:
The Schnoodle dog is intelligent and loves to be with people. If he is part of an active household he will be in his element. If he is left alone all day, it may be difficult for him at first. A dogs highest energy levels are during the latter stages of puppy hood as he approaches adult life. During his first year he also requires a lot of exercise. Te Schnoodle dog will make a great apartment dog as long as you give him a daily walk or give him other outlets for his energy. NEVER keep a dog in a crate for more than a few hours. People who leave dogs in crates all day while they are work are cruel. The dog will develop behavioral issues due to anxiety. A dogs exercise needs must be met!
Schnoodles are smart and quick and do very well when given a challenge. Remy (photo at the right) is a therapy dog and is competes with his brother Louie at the Master Agility Championship.
Doodle Dogs...are fast becoming America's most popular family pet. But Golden Doodles and Labradoodles have the disadvantage that they may inherit the shedding characteristics of the Retriever or Labrador. The Golden Doodle and Labradoodle are also typically large powerful dogs that require a lot of time to exercise. For those who want a medium or small size doodle that is good for allergies and is certain not to shed, the Schnoodle is the best Doodle option.
In my experience, the Schnoodle is the best dog a family can choose. Here is a summary of their advantages:
- Guaranteed to be non-shedding.
- Best for allergy sufferers because of low dander.
- intelligent and easy to train
- Is energetic and active, but does not have the high energy needs of the working dog breeds.
- Does not have the high powered destructive jaws of large breeds.
- has a sturdy frame...is not fragile like some breeds
- Is people oriented and attached to his family
- A perfect size for kids to walk
- Great size to cuddle and love.
- Loves people and other pets!
In my opinion this is the best breed for families with kids, retired people and any dog lover!
