Grooming an Adult Schnoodle Dog
chnoodles should be brushed 2-3 times a week to work out mats that may delelop. They should be groomed every 6 weeks if you keep the hair longer.
There is no standard way to groom a Schnoodle. But most people prefer that it is not cut to look like a poodle or a Schnauzer. They like for it to have a Teddy Bear look. The photo below is a popular cut for the Doodle Dog. Basically, the fur, ears and tail are left long and scissor cut. While the rest of the body is cut with a 'puppy cut', using a 3/4' blade or a 1" comb attached to the Grooming Tool.
I recommend that if you are visiting the groomer that you have an idea of what you would like before you go, so you can clearly describe it to her. If you do not communicate what you want, you will probably not be pleased with the cut.

The best Shampoo and Conditioner for bathing a Schnoodle
|
Cowboy Magic is truly amazing!! I tried a lot of different Shampoos and Conditioners over the years with my dogs. And none of them ever wowed me. Then I tried Cowboy Magic! The difference it made in grooming time was amazing! Every time I gave my dogs a bath, their fur was noticeably improved in texture from the time before. There were fewer knots and it was so much easier to comb them out. The Shampoo has a very pleasant fragrance. And the Conditioner REALLY makes a difference! Keep the Detangler on hand in case you come across an knot in the fur. It is the best thing I have found to break the knots apart so you don't have to cut them out. I cannot say enough about this product. Cowboy Magic is a must for the Schnoodle owner!!

Grooming your Adult Schnoodle at Home
When Grooming the Schnoodle it is best to leave a little length on the coat. a 2mm to 3mm length all over the body is appropriate. #0 comb
The face should be cut rounded like a Teddy Bear. The beard is cut across the bottom, and trimmed on the sides to give a rounded appearance. The top of the head is scissored to keep the rounded look. The sides of the face from the ears down the side of the face are cut with the #2 blade. The ears are allowed to grow long and cut straight and rounded across the bottom. |

The Grooming Table:
If you plan to groom your Schnoodle at home I highly recommend a grooming table. The table helps you keep your dog in place while you work. The table at the right is the one that I use in my home. It is everything I could have hoped for in a table. The table is really sturdy, holds the dog well with the adjustable are and is just the right size for the medium dog. Click on the link at the right to purchase. The right tools for the job pay for themselves very quickly.

What happens when you don't regularly comb your Schnoodle?
The photos above are of the one of Crystals Puppies named Rocket....at about 8 months of age. When the fur gets this long, its harder to get all the knots out that are closer to the skin. Eventually it gets to the point that it is impossible to comb through all the tangles. And at that point the best thing to do was to cut all the hair off! And that is the photo on the top....one naked Schnoodle. But no worries. The fur keeps growing and before you know it he will begin to get fluffy again. And now you can take preventative measures by starting a brushing routine of 2 -3 times a week. If you are not going to brush a Schnoodle...then you need to groom him more often and keep his fur in a shorter style or a puppy cut.
Below are some photos of Crystal the Mom of the above Schnoodle, Crystal. Her fur is a bit overgrown and I am about to give her a haircut. Her thick fuzzy coat is awful cute, but I prefer a short Schnauzer cut for ease of maintenance. Your Schnoodle will look similar to this if you let his fur grow out a bit. If you choose to keep it long, you will need to brush it every day to keep away matts and tangles.
Trimming the Dogs Nails
Clipping the nails is one of the most neglected grooming chores. It is not very difficult if you do it regularly so your dog is accustomed to the routine. Please be very careful not to cut the quick. The dog will bleed and you will need Stypic Powder to stop the bleeding. Your dog will be afraid of getting his nails clipped if you cut him so go slowly and be conservative!.
