Guardian Dog Family Information Page
I started my Guardian Home Program as a way to grow my breeding program while still providing the dog with a loving environment in a loving family. By joining our Program, you will act as a guardian for a puppy or dog that is either a female potential breeder or a male potential breeder. (or a proven breeder stud). The best way to understand the Guardian program is to think of it as a Foster family. You provide everything the dog needs while in your care, as if he was your own, and in exchange for this care we will transfer the ownership of the dog to you at no cost. We take care of all the costs related to breeding, and take the dog for the times that the dog is needed for breeding. Additionally, if the dog is a female, the dog comes to my home for the whelping and raising of puppies. We transfer ownership of the dog after a specific age or number of litters. (according to the contract)
We choose our future breeding dogs very carefully, and only those with qualities that we want to see continue are kept as our “pick of the litter” for breeding. Our guardian homes receive the best we have to offer when we place a potential future breeding dog with them. By the time one of our puppies is raised and passes the strict standards we hold, we have invested a great deal into ensuring they are healthy and well socialized. To be considered as a guardian home for one of our puppies we require that you live within 30 minutes of Fredericksburg, VA
In order to be considered as a guardian family, you must be able to meet these minimum requirements and provide the following for the dog:
The above requirements are simple and look out for the well being of each of our dogs. They are likely not much more than you’d be doing for your own pet, if you purchased one outright. If you feel you can meet the above requirements, please email us through our contact page for our full packet of info about the program.
If you are interested, please let us know and we can get to know each other and see if the program is one that interests you.

In order to be considered as a guardian family, you must be able to meet these minimum requirements and provide the following for the dog:
- You must be a homeowner, not a renter. Your home must have a physical fenced yard. No underground electronic fencing. Occasionally we will consider a home that does not have a fenced yard but only if the Guardian family agrees to keep the dog on a leash at all times when out of a physically fenced area.
- Feed the food we require and recommend, or another food that we approve that is suitable for the nutritional needs of a breeding dog. Only all natural, human grade, no by-product, no wheat or corn products for our babies.
- Training. Families must complete Puppy Obedience classes. These are basic level classes that will help you bond to your dog and learn to communicate with your dog.
- Guardian home is responsible for Vaccinations per our vaccine protocol.
- Monthly heart worm (prescribed by the veterinary) Flea prevention. You may use the Sorento flea and tick collar. You MUST not give oral flea medication.
- Professional grooming every 6 -8 weeks adhering to the approved cut and look.
- Monthly photos. We need to see how our dogs are maturing in between the visits they make to our home, plus we just simply want to see them! Photos taken with a phone are fine. We do not need high quality pictures.
- A work schedule that does not leave puppy home alone more than 4 hours a day. If one or both adults in the household work full time, then professional daycare must be provided so that puppy receives necessary socialization and proper energy outlet opportunities.
- Transporting the puppy/dog to us when needed for health testing and breeding.

Responsibilities of a Guardian Family of a Female....
Female guardian dogs are usually under contract for 6 litters. The contract may be shortened if I decide it is not in the interest of the dog or our program, to continue breeding her.
Guardians of females are required to alert me to when their girl is coming into season, and make her available to me for the breeding process. You must be learn the signs of heat and check the female dog regularly to notify me at the first signs of heat. This is very important. If we do not catch the first sign of heat we may miss the opportunity to breed the dog.
All guardian moms are required to feed the same food we use until they are retired.
Breeding and Whelping Procedure
Once you notice the female is in season you will alert me to this and we will decide what day to bring the dog to me. I will breed the dog for 3 breedings on 3 days, skipping a day between breeding (a total of 5 days).
After the dog is successfully bred, I will return the dog to you for the pregnancy (approximately 63 days). Two weeks before the due date you will bring the dog to me for the whelping of the litter. After the litter is born, I will keep the female and her puppies for another 8 weeks....until the litter goes to their homes.
Dogs come into season approximately every 6 months. Customers often plan their vacations around the time the female will be with her puppies.
I work closely with my Guardian families to make things as smooth as possible. I am happy to talk to you more about this program.
